Once you find the one you want to syncronize, click on it. Click on the “Movies” tab at the bottom of the screen to look through your movies. Once your server has converted everything, it will be sent to your device and you’ll see a little arrow in the corner of synchronized albums, like this: All the white arrows in circles indicate that these albums have been synchronized with my device – so they are stored on my device. To illustrate, I picked an album I have stored in FLAC on my server and started the conversion process: Your “Conversions” page in the Plex server settings shows you the files that are being prepared to be transferred to your device. You can now open your Plex dashboard and look for your sync progress. Here’s where things get kind of interesting. When you’ve made your decisions, you click on Save and the transfer process will start.
If you put a limit, I’m assuming Plex will just randomly select which ones will syncronize (you can also just download specific songs or albums). You can also dictate how many songs you want to synchronize. You’ll have the option of adjusting the audio quality (this makes a lot of sense if you’ve got your files stored in FLAC on your file server but want to save space on your phone if so, convert them). When you do, you’ll get this screen: You set your synching options on this screen. Once I have done that, syncing is pretty easy. I have now selected my Simon & Garfunkel songs. In this screenshot, I was looking at my Music collection. Then I have to find my collection of Simon & Garfunkel music in the Music tab (at the bottom of the screen): To move between different collections, you click the buttons at the bottom of the app. Make sure it has detected my Plex server (which is called NewPlex): I circled my server in this image. I first have to open the Plex app: This is how the app looks once it’s open and connected to your Plex server. Let’s say I want to synchronize my Simon & Garfunkel albums to my phone so I can play their music when I don’t have internet access. (I’m not going to cover install, opening, or logging in with this tutorial, just synching.)
Basically, you have to install the Plex app on your device, open the Plex app, log into your account on your device, then find the media you want to sync. So, here’s my guide to syncing audio and video to a phone/tablet.įirst, choosing what to sync is done, from what I can tell, almost exclusively from the device (with some minor exceptions). However, the process isn’t all that intuitive. Plex still has me covered with the option of “syncing” media to my phone. However, there are occasionally instances when I know I either won’t have internet access (e.g., on a plane or on a hike) and I want to have access to my media. It works pretty flawlessly with devices like my Roku or allowing me to listen or view my media collection online.
More information on how to do that is available here.
Is this done from the TOS Terminal, or the Terminal from my Windows 10 PC? I'm kind of lost here, so I am hoping someone can provide a step by step guide (with commends) on how to SSH and complete this.Īny other suggestions or solutions to fix this issue once and for all would be GREATLY appreciated, as it has become VERY frustrating to start from scratch every time there is a Plex or TOS update.NOTE: As of 2022, Plex has switched from “syncing” media to “downloading” media. I am willing to try this but have no idea how to do this. One suggestion offered was to SSH in uninstall / re-install Plex that way. I Uninstalled and Re-installed Plex several times (didn't work) I backed up TOS Settings and then Restored from the backup (didn't work). I have tried the "When Plex Fails to Load" solutions from this link -> viewtopic.php?f=75&t=364 - but nothing from this worked and I tried other possible solutions. Please Wait," until TOS times out, at which point the Plex app stops and I have to login and try again. In TOS, the Plex application simply says "Configuring. The last number of times Plex was updated, I could not get anything working until I backed everything up, restored everything to factory settings, deleted and re-formatted my RAID drives, and started everything from scratch.
Each time there is a Plex Update, my server goes down. I am having Plex "Configuring" issues and other issues around Plex.
